Lesson Overview

This lesson plan is split into 2 x 1 hour sessions. Students will be introduced to the 3D scan to 3D print process by creating a range of classroom objects from clay. The creations will then be turned into digital models using a 3D scanner before being 3D printed!

Subject Areas

The lesson can be incorporated into the study of design technology, art and design and ICT. The material can be adapted for ages 8-15. The curriculum is aligned to NGSS, CCSS and UK National Curriculum standards. A comprehensive list of standards met is included in the lesson platform.

In this project students will:

  • develop contextual knowledge of 3D scanning

  • improve their mastery of art and design skills using a range of materials

  • develop hands-on 3D scanning skills

        • use 3D printing software to edit and prepare files

        • develop an understanding of 3D printers and how they operate

        • go through the product design process, from concept to completion
